A programme ideal for working Christian
executives desirous of pursuing research in their own field, in
order to enhance their contribution to the Church, Missions and
Christian institutions in their service to society.
The Martin Luther Christian University,
Shillong, (MLCU), approved by the UGC, was created by an Act passed
in 2005 by the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya, a State in North
East India. The University registers
the candidates as students of the University, conducts the
examinations and awards the PhD degree.
The screening of applications,
selection and conduct of the programme is by Christian Institute of
Management, Chennai, (CIM),
which is a national organisation imparting information, management
training, organisation development, consultation and conducting Post
Graduate Masters and Diploma level programmes
in Christian management through self-study. CIM is a practice school
of MLCU.
The Academic Committee headed by the
Vice Chancellor of the University is the authority on all matters
pertaining to the PhD programme.
ELIGIBILITY:
Should have completed and qualified for
Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in any discipline from a recognised
University or MTh from Serampore or ATA. At least two years of
experience in secular/ministry relevant to the study being
undertaken for doctoral work is recommended. Those who are awaiting
completion or results of final examinations for Masters Degree need
not apply.
DURATION:
Minimum of THREE years and a maximum of
SIX years from the date of registration to the date of submission
of the thesis. The Doctoral Committee may in exceptional cases
reduce the minimum period.
GUIDES:
The University will allot Guides and
where they so decide, co-Guides who will assist the candidates
throughout the pursuit of the studies.
During the course of the studies Annual
Seminars will be held at the University in Shillong and candidates
must attend at least one such seminar
FEES:
Though the financial implications for
CIM are much higher, the fees have been highly subsidised as
indicated below:
Application fee Rs.500
Registration fee Rs.5,000 (one time)
Course fees of Rs.15,000 (Rs.5000 per
year)
Examination fees Rs.15,000 (one time)
Application forms and Regulations of
the Martin Luther Christian University for the Degree of Doctor of
Philosophy (PhD) may be had from the address of Christian Institute
of Management given below, on payment of Application Fee
(non-refundable) of Rs.500/- (Five Hundred Only) by Cash/Money Order
or a DD payable at Chennai drawn in favour of ‘Christian Institute
of Management’.
Applications completed in all respects
with self attested proof of education, experience; employer’s
approval –in the case of working candidates- etc. and Synopsis as
per Pt. 4.3 of the University Regulations for PhD, to be sent to
Christian Institute of Management, Chennai, with the Registration
fee of Rs.5000/- (Five Thousand
Only) vide DD drawn in favour of Martin Luther Christian University,
payable at Shillong. The Doctoral Committee of the University shall
consider and confirm the Registration of the candidate. In the event
of a candidate being found ineligible by the Doctoral Committee the
registration fees will be refunded.
