We are in the Lenten season where we reflect on the Cross and the purpose of Lord Jesus coming to the world.

Lord Jesus was very focused on the purpose for which God sent Him. Early in His public life, He publicly declared, in what is called the ‘Nazareth Manifesto’, the vision for His life (Lk 4:16 – 19). He progressed on it and was also conscious of the environment and the appointed (Kairos) time. There were occasions when He said that My time has not come (Jn 2:4, Jn 7:6). There were other occasions where He acted, knowing that His time had come (Jn 13:1, Jn 17:1).

On the day before He was crucified, Lord Jesus proclaimed to God the Father that He has fulfilled His purpose (I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. Jn 17:4). On the Cross, He publicly made the declaration that ‘it is finished’, meaning, He has fulfilled all that He was destined to fulfil.

Having a vision and being conscious about its fulfillment is very essential for any organization. Many organizations were started with a great vision by its founders, but as it progressed beyond the lifetime of the founders, it is observed that, at least in some cases, the organisations had drifted from the vision. Peter Greer and Chris Horst in their Book ‘Mission Drift’ even cites  Ivy League Universities such as Harvard and Yale as examples of this drift. It can happen to any organisation.

CIM conducts visioning exercises for organisations to keep them focussed on the original vision while helping them to align  with the external environmental changes. CIM also facilitates conversations on identifying and mitigating the risks that could otherwise lead to mission drift.

Let us continue our journey by being conscious of the purposes for which we have been destined, both individually and as a corporate body. Let’s embrace the power of the resurrected God to overcome the challenges that we face, as we pursue our vision.

Have a meaningful passion week and a blessed Easter!
